FLY ME TO THE MOON FILM REVIEW

FLY ME TO THE MOON FILM REVIEW

Prepare for lift off, we have a romantic comedy FLY ME TO THE MOON starring the dream team of Channing Tatum and Scarlett Johansson, set against the space race of the 1960s.

The film is a sharp, stylish comedy-drama set against the high-stakes backdrop of NASA’s historic Apollo 11 moon landing. Brought in to fix NASA’s public image, sparks fly in all directions as marketing maven Kelly Jones (Johansson) wreaks havoc on launch director Cole Davis’s (Tatum) already difficult task. When the White House deems the mission too important to fail, Jones is directed to stage a fake moon landing as back-up and the countdown truly begins…

Performance wise Scarlett Johansson, who is taking on the leading role of Kelly Jones, the marketing expert who Nasa believes can turn audience perception of their operation around. She gives an effortless performance. Channing Tatum plays Cole Davis, a war veteran-turned-Nasa employee who is working on the Moon mission. He does very well  in his role and it was a real joy to watch and he bonds well with Scarlett Johansson.  They have fine support of an ensemble cast that has Hollywood heavyweights such as Woody Harrelson (as NASA top-dog Moe Berkus), Ray Romano and Jim Rash, who all deliver.

Director Greg Berlanti does well in telling an intriguing story about America’s die-hard determination to be the first nation to step foot on the surface of the Moon before their Soviet rivals can beat them to the punch. Combining elements of 1960s period drama with light comedy, the film looks set to tell a story that has all the right ingredients to be a hit.

Fly Me to the Moon has wonderful comedic moments and it is fun to watch as the two leads fall for each other. The film also has a great look and sound of the late 60s, both the costumes and cinematography are amazing. Add to that the superb soundtrack that does justice to wonderful visuals make this cute romantic comedy a joy to watch. Put everything down and go and have a fabulous time at the movies.
